I’m Lame, And They Can’t Take That Away From Me
I have been tagged by my friend, The Lady Who Doesn’t Lunch. (Check out her blog, Gifts From A Broad!)
To do: List 5 things you do, did or like that some may consider “totally lame,” but that you are totally proud of.
1. I love word puzzle magazines. You’ve seen ‘em - maybe you saw your Grandma or your nerdy neighbor filling them in (In ink! Oh, heavens!). Yup, I’m that nerdy neighbor. I love word puzzles - anagrams, syllacrostics, cryptic crosswords, heck, I’ll even do regular crosswords. Lame? Perhaps. But when I’m the only 95-year-old in the nursing home who can make 40 words of 5 characters or more using only the letters in “Medicare,” you’ll all be sorry.
2. I love old music. The 40’s especially. I love Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, the big bands, Ella Fitzgerald, and sometimes, even Perry Como. This, coupled with my love of word puzzles, my tendency to nap during the day, and my affinity for Law & Order on NBC would make me really normal for 97 years old. However, I am 27 years old. This is yet another disturbing sign that I will probably die a virgin.
3. I have not gone to bed today yet, as I stayed up all night writing a rebuttal to a disciplinary report that one of my friends was given at work. But that’s not the sad part. The sad part is that I was excited to write the rebuttal. A few years ago, I helped another friend who worked at that same company with a rebuttal to a disciplinary report, and she won. The disciplinary report was repealed, and she was complimented on the quality of the rebuttal. Hopefully that will happen this time as well. I enjoy a good argument, debate, or attempt at legally maneuvering out of a situation. Perhaps this is an offshoot of the above-mentioned affinity for Law & Order on NBC. As a side note, I take a pretty decent picture even on no sleep. This is me circa 5:10 this morning.

4. I like to rap. There, now - broke the old lady mold, didn’t we? I am a white female who grew up in a Baptist church. You’d think that would put any rhythm-related activity far out of my reach, but no. I can rap, and I do it decently well. Granted, we’re talking about karaoke, but still. I can do Eminem (my signature artist), Snoop, Nelly, etc., and be quite entertaining. (Of course, saying that I’m quite entertaining may not be saying much - I suppose watching anyone try anything outside of their perceived limitations would be entertaining. Heck, I’d watch a blind one-legged orphan race an underfed pitbull. It’s the trying that counts.)
5. After discovering to my shock and horror that some people actually pee in the shower, I tried it myself. I thought it might feel slightly liberating, like skinny dipping or streaking. Yeah, no. I couldn’t go. I physically couldn’t go. I tried, mind you. I gave it a good college try. Even a graduate school try. But it was not to be. But I still tried. For all the one-legged orphans, I tried.
Your turn! What’s your list of 5 things?

At least you tried - you said so yourself - it’s the trying that counts. I’m not physically able to pee with my mother standing in the door of the bathroom. Thank god she lives in Florida.

Did you find a new job yet. Best haircut I have seen on you in the pics you post. Much success…

Aria - No problem!
abroad - It would be hard for me to pee with anyone standing in the door of the bathroom.
ANON1 - Haven’t found a job yet. Gonna try to get a waitress job to get some sort of income coming in. Thanks for the compliment. I hope you are finding success as well, and not having to work too many 13-hour days.

Success…yes…but still working LONG days; the waitress idea is a great one. It will get you out of the house and get some money coming in.
May I ask what happened with your old job? Can you maybe blog about it?
Good luck with everything and hopefully things will turn around soon.

Small piece of trivia I picked up from PBS recently. I’ve started watching more stuff on PBS lately . . . does that mean I’m getting old? Anyway, there’s actually an Annual American Crossword Puzzle Tournament in Stamford, CT. It was set-up by the editor of the New York Times crossword puzzles. Apparently, if you’re a crossword puzzle lover, the Times crossword is one of the best. Another piece of trivia, things like that will keep you sharp when you “get old.” My grandma loves to read, she pretty much devours books, it’s interesting to watch (kidding!), and she’s sharp as a tack at 93yrs.
