The Iceman Cometh…When Necessary
In yet another personal revelation that may push you into the “We Hope She Never Procreates” camp, I must admit to a strange quirk:
I go to great lengths to avoid filling my ice cube trays.
It shouldn’t be a big deal, really. I have two ice cube trays. Filling both of them and putting them in the freezer takes 60 seconds, tops. But I avoid this task like a cigar-smoking leper at a kissing booth.
For example, let’s say I wanted 4 ice cubes in my Coke. Let’s also say that one tray has 4 ice cubes, and one tray is full. The logical thing to do would be to take 4 cubes from the 4-cube tray, and then refill the tray.
But I like to eschew logic in favor of laziness and procrastination practice creative task deferment.
I’ll take 1 or 2 cubes from the 4-cube tray, then take the rest from the full tray. (I mean, hey, as long as a tray has 2 or 3 cubes, it doesn’t need to be refilled, right?) For subsequent drinks, I’ll take cubes from the fuller tray. Only when both trays have 1-2 cubes in them will I finally concede that yes, the next time I take cubes from either of them, I will have to refill the trays.
While filling the trays, I think of how easy the task is, and how good it feels knowing that my ice supply is well-stocked…but that doesn’t stop me from avoiding it next time.
Am I the only one who does this?

Ummmm I do this sometimes. I am an ice cube tray filling procrastinator too.
But I have an excuse. I fill it with filtered water and if I haven’t filtered the water then I can’t fill them can I?
So, does that mean I am both a water filter & ice cube tray filling procastinator?
My mind is swirling.

You are both very strange. To solve this issue, just buy a frig with an ice maker. Then you won’t have to indulge your lack of refill tendancy.

Hi, I’m Deb and I’m an ice-cube tray filling procrastinator.
I’ll even go so far as to drink my beverage WITHOUT ice cubes so I don’t have to refill. I will even drink it warm.
Phew…it feels really good to get that off my chest.

I agree with Dennis, however, if that is not an option, try buying a bag of ice when you buy the pop. This allows you to have really cool shaped ice and when you take a handful of ice out of the hole in the bag,in the freezer, you can sneer at the empty icecube trays, cowering in he corner, behind the frozen garlic bread. You only have to drop it on the counter every once in a while to break up the clumps. Of course when the bag starts to get empty, that creates a whole other problem, insecurity, decisions, plastic bag. Maybe room temperature is the way to go. I hope I have helped.

add another container in the freezer - plastic, paper, anything will work - empty the trays into the container and then fill them up with water again.
when you run out of ice in the container, you can then empty the trays into the container. congrats. you’ve become your own personal ice maker.

I can vouch for Deb’s procrastination. And I can tell you it’s irritating as all get out.

Rachel - Yeah, you have a better excuse than I do.
Dennis - I pay $455 per month for my apartment. I’m lucky I get a refrigerator.
Deb - Thank you for sharing. Remember, admitting you have a problem is the first step.
Woodsy Al - Good idea! I’ll have to get some garlic bread for the trays to hide behind, but I’ve got a pretty good sneer.
minijonb - Hmm. That’s not a bad idea! And it’s in my price range.
erin - Maybe I’ll just put snow in my drinks.
Jay - It’s a common problem facing America today.

I’ve been known to buy bags of party ice instead of filling the three trays I have…….

I also realize that my comments above probably sounded like I really meant it was irritating — that’s what I get for using my “sense of humor” in written form.
NOTHING my wife does is irritating.
NOTHING.
Seriously.

I have an ice maker - does the labor for me - and I don’t have to pay them anything - it’s like outsourcing
