Be My Guest

Posted January 22nd, 2007 by Playtah

Today I visited Hillary Clinton’s website.  In the blog section of the site, readers have the opportunity to submit a post and be the first guest post featured on the blog.  I figured I’d give it a shot.  I don’t know when they’ll choose the winner, but below is the post I submitted.

Change is in the air.

When I think of the people who brought change and growth to my life, I realize that they share many similar qualities: Modesty, Optimism, Vision, Education, Responsiveness, and Sensitivity.

Modesty – I don’t need a person who has all the answers.  I need a person who is willing to tackle the hard questions and not let their ego get in the way of the truth.

Optimism – I need that underlying current of hope—the kind of hope that says, “I may not know what’s around the corner, but I know we’ll make it through if we stick together.”

Vision – I need a person who has a sense of where the road is leading, and who is willing to change course if they discover a better path.

Education – I need a person who is always learning.  You don’t necessarily need a formal education to learn.  I need someone who is always seeking out the truth and what is best for those they love.

Responsiveness – I need a person who can translate intentions into action—someone who will step up and say, “This needs to be done, and I will do it.”

Sensitivity – I need a person who has compassion for others.  Everyone has a struggle.  I need a person who understands that and is willing to be an ally.

These types of people truly are the MOVERS in my life.  Since that kind of person can change me (and trust me—I’m not an easy sell), I’m excited to see how my country could change if we had that kind of person in office.  I’m excited to see the new growth and global influence that my country could have.  Most of all, I’m excited to see the progress we could achieve with the unifying leadership of a mover who has the good of others in mind.

It’s time to get excited about the progress you want to see.  Growth is right around the corner, and change is in the air.

Too early to say anything about the election really. I definitely have trouble trusting anyone with the name Clinton. And don’t think I’m trusting Bush or the republicans further than I can throw a cross-town bus. All that aside, good luck getting your blog posted!

Deb - Thank you! I want to be that type of person, too!

Rach - Well, you know, I do what I can.

Deb - Er, yes! That was about BOTH of you!

David - You make some good points. I’m not 100% sure who I will vote for, but I thought it was cool that I had the chance to have my writing posted on her blog :)

Andy - Yeah, it is pretty early. And there’s a bazillion candidates right now, so we don’t know who will wind up as the chosen candidates for each party. Thanks for the well-wishes!

    Wendy:

What do you know about Barack Obama? Do you know enough to vote one way or another in an election (say, Clinton vs. Obama or Obama vs. [fill in the blank republican])?

Ben - I’ve read a bit about Barack Obama. I haven’t memorized specifics, but from what I see he’s sponsored some good bills while in the Senate and cooperates well across party lines. His biography is one Wikipedia and on his website. I like him, too. If I had to vote right now, I’d probably go with Clinton over Obama, or if the race was between Obama and a Republican, I’d definitely go with Obama. One thing that’s really good about Hillary is that she has experience being in the White House. She knows how things run, and she’d have her husband to consult if she needed to make a big decision, since he’s been there before. You almost get a 2-for-1 deal. Then we could have Obama as the Vice President. Then if Clinton decides not to run in 2012, Obama could run.
