OCD Blogs
Please take a look at the blogs listed under the “OCD Blogs” section of my sidebar. The two I have so far give some insight into the world of OCD. Also, if you know of any other good blogs that deal with OCD, let me know so I can add them! Thanks!

Wow. impressive they’re so honest. Admitting that couldn’t have been easy. I hope they find healing. Depression and anxiety, I think most people deal with at some point, but them dealing the compulsions on top of it all. My heart goes out to them. Those were some painful things to read.

Someone very close to me has been diagnosed with having OCD. This person’s deceased grandfather had it (severely) and and the sibling also has it. The one thing I notice about it is that the more they talk about it or focus on it the worse it gets. I wonder why that is? Any ideas?

Andy - Thank you for taking a look at those! I have OCD too, so I can definitely tell you that it is a crappy thing to have to deal with. I love that you sympathized with those bloggers as opposed to thinking of them as freaks. You rock.
Deb - Your friend/relative is lucky to have you for support. You’re a very caring person, and a good friend. I’m not sure why the OCD gets worse the more your friend/relative talks about it. For me personally, the OCD affects 95% of what I do when I’m conscious, so I don’t have a choice but to think of it all the time. Is your friend/relative taking any meds or getting any therapy?
I also have to sympathize with that person’s grandfather. OCD treatment seems to be a relatively new thing, so I’m sure the grandfather went through most of his life with no support for his illness. I can’t imagine what it would be like to have OCD, but have no explanation for why you do and think what you do.

No, they aren’t taking meds for it and after I asked them about it they said they don’t have it very severely so it’s probably totally different. They deal more with generalized anxiety with small symptoms of OCD here and there rather then just overall OCD. (which is why it gets worse with the power of suggestion) I guess their experience with it is more annoying then debilitating. I suppose this is just another example of how everyone’s experiences are totally different no matter if it’s the same disease.
Their grandfather had it severely though. I remember seeing his hands raw and bleeding from washing. I’m sure you’re right that he must have really been frustrated because it wasn’t as well-known as it is now.
