8 out of 10
I belong to a poetry website (Poetry Power–see the link on the sidebar), and there are some forums on that site that present challenges. One of the forums gives you 10 words, and you must create a work incorporating 8 of those words. Yesterday, the challenge I participated in had a list of these 10 words:
paragon
megalomania
stupor
clocktower
whistle
petty
manse
uxorious
slip
dilettante
I chose 8 of the words and wrote this:
Abandoned Timekeeper
Look you over fields of grain;
See the sun that slips away
As the stupor—dark and fog—
Tries to veil your ancient base.
Manse of dilettante and bat;
(One with camera, one with wing,
One to capture, one to hide)
You, clocktower, serve them both.
Have your friends all turned away,
Using you or covering
What makes you a greater guest
Than their company deserves?
Paragon of gothic form
Looked upon as petty, now
By the ones who take your time
Never giving you the same.
Whistle to your lonely beau;
It makes love to time and art
As it wraps around your bricks—
Wind, your only lover now.
If you enjoy writing, joining an online forum can be a great way to use your skills and grow. And you get to use words like “dilettante”.

I don’t even know what 8 out of 10 of those words mean.

Lol…I had to look them up, too.

I knew what all of them but uxorious meant. But I am horrible at poetry so I won’t even attempt it.

What a WONDERFUL poet you’re becoming, MissP. Goes hand-in-hand with all the other wonderful things you already are, and shall be.
I miss you!
