Ides and Illegal Immigrants
Today is the ides of March. Beware.
Now on to illegal immigrants. I was listening to NPR on the way to work, and there was a segment about illegal immigrants. I kept thinking about what the Lord said in the Old Testament about the Israelites helping aliens, because they themselves used to be aliens in Egypt. What do you think about the issue of illegal immigrants? How do you think the United States and its citizens should respond to illegal immigrants?
Here is an article I came across about a biblical response to strangers in the land (not specifically illegal immigrants).

Were the aliens in Egypt there known or unknown to the goverment? Did they come into the land without permission knowing that there were laws regarding entrance into the country?
I don’t have a problem with immigrants coming into the country and making a life for themselves in the U.S. My problem is when people knowingly enter the country illegally.
There are a myriad of problems with illegal immigrants. They do not contribute to the tax base of the nation yet they are able to obtain federal aid. The allow people to break the law by hiring them “under the table” and are rarely paid even close to minimum wage.
Unless they are in a terrible situation and are able to apply for asylum, they should go through the correct beauracratic channels and enter the country legally. It is a benefit not only to them, but to the entire country.
